Highlighting
Glaze
Like wiping stain, highlighting glaze
provides another layer of color and
colors the pores in open grain woods.
The highlighting glaze should be
applied liberally
to
prevent "white"
shadows.
A
highlighting glaze is
generally not wiped as "clean" as a fill
glaze, oil sealer or wiping stain.
Equipment Requirements
When applying highlighting glaze, the
typical fluid delivery rates range between
16 and 24 ounces per minute. We
recommend the following air spray and
HVLP gun set-ups:

JGHV-5285-FF (.055") for
lower fluid flow rate or
JGHV-5465-FF (.055") for
higher fluid flow rate.
MSV-528-4-FF (.055") for
lower fluid flow rate or
MSV-546-4-FF (.055") for
higher fluid flow rate.

Operating Tips
Operating an HVLP spray gun differs
very little from operating a conventional
air spray gun. Here are a few guidelines
to
keep in mind:
Due
to
HVLP's higher transfer
efficiency, the fluid flow rate
must be lowered. Start with 15-25%
less than with a conventional gun.
Slower particle velocity requires
that the gun be held six
to
eight
inches from the target,
compared
to
the 10
to
12 inch
distance for conventional guns.
Highlighting with glaze procedures
require similar maintenance on both
HVLP and air spray guns. Some general
operating tips include:
4
Reduce atomizing air.
4
Check flow rates daily.
4
Clean build-up from gun tips and air
caps as required.
4
Do
not use ball or needle valves
to
adjust air pressure. Use
regulators.
Always use the lowest fluid and air
pressure possible.
Lubricate gun daily.
Before production spraying, test for
atomization quality, pattern shape,
pattern uniformity and proper shade
or coverage desired.
Glaze is extremely abrasive,
causing excessive needle and tip
wear-check tips by monitoring
spray pattern and material leakage.
